Window Replacement in Puerto Rico

Puerto Ricans enjoy a great deal of lovely weather almost all year long and that means that you should want the best windows for your home. When it comes to window replacement, though, you want to hire a company that knows how to take what you have currently in your home and make it something special.

Even safer.

How can windows be safer?

If you think that the windows in your home are safe right now, or as safe as they can be, then you may be surprised to learn that there are many options available for people throughout this great nation.

What is one thing that many Puerto Ricans worry about when it comes to weather events and certain conditions that, when you combine it with the idea of windows in your home being safe, can make you realize that there are certainly things to consider?

If you said hurricanes, you’re right. While we may enjoy some of the best weather that anyone could hope to have throughout the year, one thing that is constantly on the minds of homeowners, government officials, and emergency responders happens to be hurricanes. Every year in June, the official start of Hurricane Season begins and runs all the way through November. For people living in the United States, that threat is real, but the chances of being struck by a strong hurricane are reduced, especially when you consider the paths that most hurricanes tend to take.

However, for the Caribbean island that we call home, that threat is much more real. And dangerous.

A vast majority of Puerto Ricans live somewhere close to the ocean, with a very small percentage of residents living inland on the island. That means that there is a vast majority of people who are at an increased risk of being hit by strong winds, which can break branches, blow debris, and shatter windows.

Now, what if there were windows that you could purchase for your home that would make them much safer? There are and they are called hurricane windows. These windows are ideal for replacing your old, worn out and tired looking windows because not only will you be able to enjoy the scenery that is unique to Puerto Rico, but you’ll also be safer during those storms that will come.

You see, it’s not a matter of if they occur in the future but rather when. This isn’t meant to frighten anyone, but rather show you that there are options for window replacement that you might not have thought about.

So what does hurricane windows mean? What is it about these windows that makes them great for people across Puerto Rico?

Yes, they will cost the average homeowner more than for other regular types of windows, but they provide a level of protection that you just won’t find with traditional types of windows. These windows are impact rated, which means that they will be able to withstand a significant impact by a ‘missile.’ No, that doesn’t refer to a military weapon, but rather the objects that get blown around during a hurricane, whether it’s a street sign or a piece of wood, if one of your new hurricane windows is struck, it may crack but it won’t shatter. The film layer that holds the glass in place will withstand a significant impact, leaving your home safer in the long run.

So what if you’re not interested in hurricane windows?

Of course, if you live in a region that doesn’t require these safe windows, then you certainly have other options when it comes to window replacement. In that case, you want to choose windows that are going to help your home take advantage of the views that you may have, but also cut down on the cooling expenses.

One of these types of windows is known are low-e. This is a layer that is added to the glass (glazing) that will help to block UV rays (ultraviolet radiation) that comes in with the sunlight from getting into your home. It’s those UV rays that can wear down the color on your furniture as well as heat up your home, leaving you running the air conditioner or fan constantly just to try and remain cool. Of course, if you live close enough to the coast, then you’ll be enjoying those nice ocean breezes that can help cool them as well.

There are so many options that you can choose from when it comes to window replacement, though. The key is to find the right company to choose. You’ll find that there are many different companies that promise great results and expert craftsmanship, but do you know what you’re going to get when you hire them? The answer is, in most cases, no.
